After nearly two years of construction, developer Forest City Enterprises is finally nearing completion for Chinatown's $100-million Blossom Plaza.

The mixed-use development, located on an approximately two-acre site next to Metro's Chinatown Station, consists of two colorful five-story structures featuring 237 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including 54 reserved for low-income households.

The project, designed by local architecture firms Togawa Smith Martin and Johnson Fain, is clad with exterior finishes including metal and cement plaster.

Plans call for a variety of on-site amenities, highlighted by a 17,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza which connects to the adjacent train station.  The plaza will also feed directly into a pedestrian paseo between the two buildings, flanked by more than 40,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space.

Completion of Blossom Plaza is on pace to occur later this year.

The project may be joined in the near future by College Station, a substantially larger development slated for the vacant five-acre property to the east of Chinatown Station.
